Lighting Job Role

The role of the lighting designer is to first devise a plan for the rig and find out what fixtures they have available to them; This also means they must take the safety of the Audience, Actors, and staff into account when rigging and planning where things must go. 

They are also responsible for the installation of the fixtures and rigging; this means afterward they also must be patched into the lighting desk. 

They also must operate and program the lights for the show after the lights have been programmed it is much easier to operate the show as the stage manager will make the calls. 

Skills needed for a lighting designer: 

Hard Skills – Knowledge of fixtures and what they do, how to rig fixtures, Programming, Making rig plans. 

Other Skills – Math, English, Color theory.

The importance of communication is crucial and essential to make sure everything is professional and everyone knows what they're doing when they're doing it and time limits are met and everything is well-timed and all met.
